Drag out your hat and your broom it is time to talk witches again! This is probably the right time to remind you that witches believe in positive energy and the power of 3. In other words whatever you do comes back to you 3 fold. Therefore you want to be sending out the good more often then the bad. Evil deeds coming back at you 3 fold can be unpleasant to say the least. Glamour Magazine did an article last October that takes an interesting look at how TV and film get it both right and wrong when it comes to witches.

My opinion is that most witches are misunderstood. For centuries witches have been type cast. They have been the ugly chick in the room unless they can shape shift, then they give a witch a look that would give Barbie a run for her money. That look also not realistic. Most witches are portrayed as villains who don't like children, the witch from Hansel and Gretel (does she even have a name), Sleeping Beauty's Maleficent and the Sanford Sister from Hocus Pocus. Then of course there are the super scary girls like the Wicked Witch of the West, and our Hudson Valley's own the Blair Witch.

I believe that one of the reason why witches draw so much attention is because if you aren't one it is hard to get to know about one. Witches keep their magic close to the "broom" to twist a phrase. And let's face it keeping the mystery in place guarantees that most folks won't mess with the witch. So witches will go on doing the good things they do and people will go on wondering if they know, a good witch or a bad one.
