
Ulster County Woman Accused of Stealing Thousands From Grocery Store
A woman in Ulster County is facing felony charges after New York State Police said she stole more than $4,400 from the grocery store where she was employed over the course of several months.
Most of us stop at the grocery store on a regular basis to pick up everything from dinner to snacks and other everyday necessities. While we usually don't think twice about the employees working behind the scenes, one woman in Ellenville is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the business that employed her.

Woman Busted Stealing Thousands From Grocery Store in Ellenville
According to the New York State Police, 35-year-old Denah R. Stratton of Ellenville was arrested on Tuesday, October 6, following an investigation by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) in Ellenville.

Investigators determined that Stratton, who worked at Tops Friendly Market, allegedly stole approximately $4,456 from the business over the course of several months. Police did not provide additional details about how the alleged theft was carried out at the recently closed store located at 100 Tops Market Blvd., in Ellenville, but Stratton is now facing two felony charges in connection with the investigation.
Those charges include Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a Class D felony, and Falsifying Business Records in the First Degree, a Class E felony.
Arrested and Released
Following her arrest, Stratton was processed at State Police in Ellenville before being arraigned in Ulster County Centralized Arraignment Part. She was subsequently released on her own recognizance.
Stratton is scheduled to appear in the Town of Wawarsing Court on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., where the case is expected to continue. As with any criminal case, the charges against Stratton are accusations, and she is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
