Sunflower Kernel Recall Includes Thousands of Products
Granola bars, protein bars, snack bags, and hundreds of other products that include sunflower kernels on their ingredient list are being recalled by SunOpta. Companies who have used sunflower products from SunOPta are also issuing recalls for their products impacted by this health risk.
According to the FDA, SunOpta has voluntarily recalled a variety of sunflower kernel products due to the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
Listeria symptoms can include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, and could cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Kashi has also recalled several of their products impacted by these recalls.
