Approximately 58 million pounds of corn dogs and other "on-a-stick" products are being recalled across the U.S. because they may contain pieces of wood.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced a massive recall of millions of corn dog and sausage on a stick products sold in stores across the country because they may be contaminated with "extraneous material".

Corn Dogs & Sausage on a Stick Products Recalled

About 58 million pounds of corn dogs and other sausage-on-a-stick products are being recalled because pieces of wood may be embedded in the batter, according to a notice issued by the FSIS. The notice stated that select Hillshire Brands that were packaged between March 17, 2025, and September 26, 2025, are part of the recall, including State Fair corn dogs and Jimmy Dean "Pancakes & Sausage On a Stick" and "French Toast & Sausage On a Stick".

The contamination problem was uncovered after Hillshire Brands, a subsidiary of Tyson Foods, received multiple consumer complaints reporting a substance in the products, five of which involved injuries. Soon after, Hillshire Brands Company conducted an investigation that determined that a "limited number" of these products included extraneous pieces of wooden sticks within the batter and initiated a recall "out of an abundance of caution," according to CBS News.

The investigation also determined that the issue was isolated to one production facility located in Haltom City, Texas.

How To Identify Recalled Items

To identify affected products, consumers are advised to check the product's name, use-by dates, and other identifying information, which is available online here. All of the products being recalled should have an establishment number of "EST-582" or "P-894" printed on the package.

Recalled Items Sold to Schools

The recalled products were sold online and shipped to retail and food service locations nationwide, as well as Department of Defense facilities and school districts across the country.

The FSIS explained that it's "concerned that some products may be in consumers’ refrigerators and freezers, along with school and institution refrigerators and freezers." Consumers, schools, and institutions that have purchased these products are urged not to consume them.

If you do find you have any of the recalled products, they should be returned to the place of purchase or thrown away.
