Talk about a throwback! Remember what the Galleria at Crystal Run in Middletown, New York used to look like in the 90s?

The Mall Was the Place to Be in The 90s

There's something about shopping at a mall in the 90s. It just seemed so high-class. And as a 90s kid who was a teen in the early 2000s, the mall was the place to be on the weekends.

Remember meeting up with your friends at the movie theater and then not seeing a movie and just wandering around your local mall? Then having to call your parents to pick you up at the payphone. Ah, those were the days.

90s Nostalgia at The Galleria at Crystal Run in Middletown, New York

The folks at The Galleria at Crystal Run in Middletown must have millennials on their staff. Recently, they posted a throwback video of what the Middletown, New York mall looked like back in the 90s.

Do you remember when it looked like this?

This video sent me into a '90s mall nostalgia tailspin. I went deep into The Galleria at Crystal Run's Facebook photos and found some more gems.

Malls weren't just for shopping in the '90s, you could throw on your leotard and get in an aerobics workout in the middle of the mall too:

Maybe it's just me, but holidays were 10x better at the mall in the '90s. Meeting the Easter Bunny was the highest honor, remember this guy:

Hudson Valley Malls in 2024

Obviously, life is a little different now in 2024 and we're feeling the change in some of the mall shopping centers around the region. While the Poughkeepsie Galleria and The Galleria Crystal Run in Middletown are a bright spot when it comes to malls, others aren't fairing as well.

The Hudson Valley Mall in Kingston, New York has been dubbed a Ghost Mall with many of the stores closed or uncertain about their future. Dick's Sporting Goods, an anchor store at the Hudson Valley Mall, is planning on moving to Gander Mountain in the nearby Hudson Valley Plaza.

However, the Newburgh Mall which once looked like it was on the decline, is currently thriving. Construction recently began, which the mall explains is to make room for "new exciting stores."

Along with that, the Newburgh Mall is home to Resorts World Hudson Valley which has now made it a must-stop destination:
