Equipment Gets ‘Wedged’ Under Overpass in Middletown, New York
An interesting situation unfolded over the weekend in Middletown, New York.
If you spend any time driving on New York roads you are well aware that almost all of the overpasses you drive under have signs on or near them that tell drivers the height, or clearance needed to safely cross under without crashing into it. If you drive a car or regular size pickup truck you probably don't pay any attention to those signs but if you drive a bigger truck (dump truck, 18-wheeler) those signs are extremely important because they are put in place to avoid what happened in Middletown over the weekend.
Heavy Equipment Wedged Under Overpass
The Middletown Fire Department (MFD) received a call over the weekend and was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident (MVA) that included a "hazardous situation" according to the department's Facebook page. The post said,
"At 13:45hrs Middletown FD was dispatched to a MVA with hazardous situation with a bobcat wedged under RR tressel on a flat bed on Genung Street."

As you can see in the pictures above (more below) a dump truck that was pulling a trailer with a piece of heavy equipment on the back was attempting to drive under the railroad overpass on Genung Street in Middletown, NY when it got stuck. The overpass which clearly states its clearance on a sign above the road was smashed into by the "bobcat arm" which is obviously taller than 10 feet 7-inch clearance.
The fire department didn't say what first responders did to remove the bobcat, how long it took, or if the railroad overpass was damaged but after posting the pictures on Facebook hundreds began to leave some entertaining comments saying things like, "A no-profit job from that rental", "The GPS said to go this way! It’s not my fault!", and our favorite, "You mean that 15' piece of equipment on top of a 3' trailer won't fit under the 10'7" bridge?"
