Tips for Having A Good Yard Sale
The calendar says June, which means in New York, we have officially arrived at Flea Market and yard sale season. It is time to go on the hunt for treasures.
As soon as the weather clears, which it has, people will start throwing out their yard sale signs on the weekends, which means we can load our pockets with some cash and head out to find that lost album we have been trying to hunt down, or maybe you just need a lamp.
Hudson Valley Yard Sale Season Has Arrived
If you are someone who enjoys a good yard sale, you may be thinking it is time to have one of your own. Chances are, if you are thinking about it, you already have enough stuff. So, what does it take to throw a good yard sale? It takes stuff and more stuff.

People head to yard sales to find a long-lost something. If your yard sale only consists of a table set up in the yard with some used dishes on it, you might end up disappointed with your earnings at the end of the day.
What Makes A Good Yard Sale
A good yard sale needs variety. If you are going to do a yard sale, it is important that you really load up the yard. Get the stuff you don't need or want any longer, and if you just don't have enough stuff, have your friends join in with some of their stuff.
You will need signs strategically placed throughout the neighborhood so that people from the main roads near you can follow the trail to your yard or garage. And don't be afraid to use the garage. It makes putting up and taking down the sale much easier because you can just close the door until you want to deal with all of it again.
You can also put your sale up on garage sale Apps. Check your phone's App Store or go to the Google App on your phone.
A Few Quick Tips For A Successful Yard Sale in the Hudson Valley
If you are going to price things, make sure you use round numbers like $1 and $2; you don't want to have to make change. Also, be sure you have cash on hand to give people change. Get singles and fives, it makes it easier when people are buying only one item. Be prepared for some folks to make a pile and offer you one price for all.
Good luck and remember, at the end of the day, you don't have to keep what you don't sell, there is always a landfill close by, or better yet, you can donate it to a place like ReStore Dutchess or Goodwill.
