Record Breaking Heat Roasts Dutchess County Town
Heat Dome Encompasses New York State
As the first day of summer rolled in, New Yorker's were warned that Mother Nature was taking that task seriously.
Meteorologist all over the state were warning of temperatures in the high 90s with heat index temperatures between 105-110 degrees. They weren't lying!
Take a look at the US National Weather Service in Albany's breakdown of the heat index forecast:
Local organizations used social media to warn residents about the dangers of extreme heat sharing that if you didn't have to be outside, don't be. Stay hydrated and check on your elderly neighbors, so on and so forth.
Poughkeepsie, New York Breaks Decades Old Temperature Record
An extreme heat warning went into effect on Monday, which according to the NWS means "Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 110 expected."
On Monday June 23rd, 2025 temperatures reached 97F degrees in Poughkeepsie and in Glenns Falls, New York. This broke a record for both towns.
The National Weather Service explains that the 97 degree days were new record highs set for June 23rd. The record high minimum in Poughkeepsie was 71F.
Then on Tuesday June 24th, 2025, the NWS took to social media to share that Poughkeepsie "officially reached 100F."
They write:
As of 3:53 PM, Poughkeepsie has officially reached 100F! This not only breaks the daily record for the date but also is the first time Poughkeepsie has hit 100F or higher since July 22, 2011 when the site reached 102F
I think we as New Yorkers can all agree, we don't want to see 100F degrees every again. That's just too hot!
