Sadly, it took a serious accident in the area of the City of Poughkeepsie schools for the bill to get passed. The bill was sponsored by New York State Senator Rob Rolison after an accident took the life of a crossing guard.

While the bill has been passed, the school zone cameras have not been installed in the City of Poughkeepsie.

So far in the Hudson Valley, the only town to have school speed zone cameras installed is Kingston.

How Much is A School Zone Speeding Ticket?

According to Zucker Law Offices speeding tickets in school zones vary in charges.

If you're caught going 1-10mph over the speed limit in a school zone, the driver could be hit with a $90 to $300 ticket and 3 points on their license.

11 to 30 mph over, drivers could receive a ticket between $180-$600 and 4 to 6 points on their license.

As you can imagine the fine for going 31 mph or over the school zone speed limit is quite high.

Tickets range anywhere from $360 to $1,200 and anywhere between 8 to 11 points on the drivers record.
