The number of children being raised by grandparents or other relatives has been on the rise in recent years, so too have the number of individuals who are also helping to care for their parents in addition to their own families. That's why Cornell Cooperative Extension in Ulster County offers the Relatives as Parents Program.

This program is there to help grandparents, as well as other relatives, who have taken on the role of primary caregiver for related children. They provide education, training to learn new parenting and coping skills, mutual peer support groups, inter-generational activities, respite, referrals and access to appropriate community based services and resources.

This Saturday, the Relatives as Parents Program will host The Parents and Caregivers Expo at the Rosendale Recreation Center, Route 32 in Rosendale from 10-2. There will be panel discussions, vendors from various agencies throughout Ulster County, resources, plus children's activities, and a bake sale.

This is a great place to get information to help, what may already be a tough situation, become a little easier. You can talk to folks, get phone numbers and websites, and know that you're not alone. So whether you are caring for someone who is aging or someone who is growing up, this is a great place to be this Saturday.
