‘Special Offer’ Gun Buyback Event Coming to Kingston
A gun buyback event in Kingston, New York is happening this month and will offer gift cards to anyone who turns in a firearm.
Over the last few years gun buyback events have taken thousands of guns off New York streets and to keep the momentum going the City of Kingston has scheduled a gun buyback event that will give anyone the chance to trade a gun in for a pre-paid gift card.
Gun Buyback in Kingston, New York
The event will take place on Saturday, May 18th from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Andy Murphy Midtown Neighborhood Center located at 467 Broadway in Kingston, NY, and will allow anyone to turn in a working or non-working firearm for various dollar amount gift cards. Events similar to this have helped remove more than 4,000 guns from New York communities since 2019. It's sponsored by New York Attorney General Letitia James who continues this statewide initiative to combat gun violence and protect people from harm.
How Much Is Each Gun Worth in New York?
This year the Kingston gun buyback will offer:
$500 per assault rifle or ghost gun
$150 per handgun
$75 per rifle or shotgun
$25 for non-working, replica, antique, homemade, or 3D-printed guns.

How to Turn in a Gun
The gun buyback will accept both working and non-working firearms, and all guns must be unloaded and placed in a bag or a box. This is an amnesty program, in which no questions will be asked about the person dropping off the gun and there is no limit on the number of firearms an individual can turn in according to the District Attorney's website. Current or retired law enforcement officers are not eligible to participate in this program.
