New York Home Invasion Stopped by 14 year Old With a Baseball Bat

A Walden, New York man allegedly forced his way into an apartment destroying property and trying to attack a woman.

It was around 10 p.m. on Friday, September 29th when police received a call that a Walden, New York man had allegedly forced his way into an apartment in Columbia County, NY. Once inside the man began breaking property inside the residence and attempted to attack a female who was defended by her son with a baseball bat.

Hudson Police were dispatched to the Hudson Terrace Apartments for reports of an altercation Friday evening and when they arrived on the scene they spoke with the alleged victims of the home invasion. A woman, her son, and a friend told police that someone knocked loudly on the door to their apartment and forcibly entered according to News 10.

The woman told police she had never seen the man before and once he got inside he began smashing everything and tried to physically attack her.

Son Stops Attack on Mom

The victim told police that the man, who was later identified as 31-year-old Matthew McNamara of Walden, NY allegedly tried to drag her outside the apartment. As the suspect tried to drag her outside the woman told police he would have been successful but was stopped by her 14-year-old son who fended off McNamara with a baseball bat.

McNamara was taken to a local hospital to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries and once he was released he was arrested by Hudson Police. The victim and her son suffered minor injuries but did not seek medical attention.

Walden Man Arrested and Charged

It's unclear what McNamara's motive was for the home invasion but police did say that he was kicked off an Amtrak Train roughly 45 minutes prior which could have led to him acting out. McNamara was charged with, Second-degree burglary, Third-degree assault, Fourth-degree criminal mischief, and three counts of Endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned at the Hudson City Court and sent to the Columbia County Jail. Bail was set at $500.00 cash, a $20,000 bond, or a $20,000 partially secured bond.
