Rented Trailer for Sale Online

The Ulster County Sheriff's Office has announced that they have placed a 33-year-old Poughkeepsie, New York man under arrest after he successfully sold a rented trailer to an online buyer after posting an online ad. Sherriff's Office detectives report that Alejandro A. Cabrera allegedly tried to sell an enclosed trailer that he had rented from a third-party rental company to a buyer who responded to his online ad.

Detectives say that Cabrera posted the ad online acting as if he owned the trailer and when the victim responded to the ad it was agreed that they would purchase the trailer. The victim agreed to pay Cabrera multiple payments over the course of the next several months and after each payment he made a false promise to provide the buyer with the registration and title to the trailer which he never possessed.

Detectives confirmed that Cabrera had no ownership rights or permission from the rental company to sell the trailer and after he collected multiple payments from the victim totaling well over $3,000 it was determined that a warrant was going to be issued for his arrest. Cabrera surrendered to detectives at the Ulster County Law Enforcement Center on September 21, 2023, and was arrested. He was charged with one count of Grand Larceny in the third degree and released with an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Esopus Justice Court at a later date. As with any legal case, any person charged with an offense is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
