Wappingers Falls Mexican Restaurant Shut Down With Almost No Warning

One of Dutchess County's favorite spots for Mexican food has closed its doors for good, and if you've ever grabbed a burrito or margarita there, this one might come as a surprise.

One thing the Hudson Valley loves is Mexican food, right? Most of us have at least one go-to spot we visit a few times a year. Thankfully, there are plenty of great options across the region. Unfortunately, it looks like one of Dutchess County's longtime favorites has permanently closed.

Mexicali Blue in Wappingers Falls Has Closed

According to a recent social media post, the Mexicali Blue restaurant on Route 9 in Wappingers Falls officially served its last customers on Wednesday night, July 15.

News of the closure first started spreading on Facebook after a local trivia host announced they had been notified the restaurant would be shutting down immediately. The post also let regular Thursday night trivia players know that the weekly event, which had been held there for more than four years, had come to an unexpected end.

To confirm the reports, I called the Wappingers Falls location directly around 6 p.m. Wednesday. A female employee told me the restaurant would be closing at 8:30 p.m. that night and that it would be the final night in business.

Fans Surprised by Closure

The closure appears to have happened with very little advance notice, leaving many longtime customers surprised. For years, the restaurant had been a popular spot for locals looking for burritos, tacos, quesadillas and margaritas while also serving as a gathering place for weekly trivia nights and other community events.

At this time, no reason for the closure has been announced, and it's unclear what will become of the Wappingers Falls location. If Mexicali Blue announces any additional information about the closure or the future of the location, we'll update this story.

Mexicali Blue has confirmed the closure on its Facebook page, saying,
