The Reason Newburgh Firefighters Were Seen In A Storm Drain
Animal rescues are so rewarding when they turn out well, which was the case this past weekend when the Good Will Fire Department was called to the side of the road to inspect a sewer drain.
Good Will Fire Department Performs Rescue From Storm Drain
All the rain we have had lately has most of our roadside drains running with water. Flash flood warnings earlier in the month were almost a daily occurrence. As of late, the flood warnings have dropped, but that doesn't mean that storm drains can't fill with water unexpectedly.

This past week, a good Samaritan named Donna noticed a duck circling a grate on the side of the road and thought twice about it. All lucky for the duck and her ducklings, Donna decided that the behavior warranted more investigation.
How Were The Ducks Discovered in the Storm Drain in Newburgh
Donna notified the Town of Newburgh Police Department, who sent two officers, who then notified the Good Will Fire Department. From the pictures below, you can see the fire department went to work quickly rescuing what turned out to be 12 ducklings from the drain.
Kudos to Donna for noticing the duck, thank you to the responding officers, and good job to the Good Will Fire Department, who knew exactly what to do to get the little ones reunited with mom, who spent the rescue hiding in the brush, obviously watching the whole thing.
