
Gruesome Bar Fight Leaves One Person Missing Part of an Ear in Orange County
A night out at a popular Orange County bar ended with a gruesome injury and multiple felony charges after police say a Montgomery man bit off part of another person's ear during a violent altercation.

According to the Town of Montgomery Police Department, it all started on Friday, June 26th at approximately 10:26 p.m. when officers were dispatched to Copperfield's Pub in the Village of Montgomery for a report of a physical fight.

When officers arrived at the bar located at 93 Clinton St, in Montgomery, they launched an investigation that revealed 47-year-old William "Billy" Hassler, of Montgomery, allegedly became violent after he was asked to leave the property. Police say Hassler had previously been trespassed from the establishment before getting into the physical confrontation.

Before officers arrived, several people reportedly attempted to restrain Hassler. During the struggle, police said that he allegedly bit off a portion of one person's ear. Police didn't say who was bitten but did say that when officers took Hassler into custody, he continued acting violently and allegedly kicked an officer multiple times. He also allegedly spit in the face of another officer during the arrest.
Hassler has been charged with:
- Assault in the First Degree (Class B Felony)
- Assault in the Second Degree (Class D Felony)
- Trespass (Violation)
Following his arraignment, Hassler was sent to the Orange County Jail. Bail was set at $10,000 cash, $20,000 secured bond, or $50,000 partially secured bond. As with all criminal cases, all charges are merely accusations. The defendant is innocent until proven guilty.
