The Trailside Museums and Zoo at Bear Mountain is a wonderful place to learn about the animals that share the Hudson Valley with us. Sadly, over the Winter, two popular animal ambassadors passed away, but luckily, the Zoo has room to take in others who can use the help and a home.

Unlike other wildlife animal rehabs in the Hudson Valley, like the Friends of the Feather and Furry Wildlife Center and Lucky Rehabilitation Center, the zoo is not looking to eventually send the animals in their care back out to the wild.

Instead, the zoo becomes a home for animals that can't live in the wild any longer but who can live in a place that mimics their natural surround but ensures their survival, and in turn, we get to learn about them and other animals that share our woods.

Tater wouldn't be able to survive in the wild, he has a neurological deficiency that slows him down, so he will call the zoo his home and live out his life with Rosie, another North American Porcupine that already lives at the zoo. Rosie also moves slowly due to a neurological issue.

Tater was found in Gansevoort, NY, after some unusual movement in his hind legs raised concerns. He was brought to to The Janet L. Swanson Wildlife Hospital at Cornell University for evaluation, transferred to Animal Nation, then found his permanent home at Trailside.
