Multiple Hudson Valley Fire Departments responded to an accident involving a motor vehicle and a train. The CSX tracks that run through Ulster County were the site of a car vs train accident at around 213 PM on Tuesday afternoon.

The Saint Remy Fire Department, the Esopus Fire Department, and the Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad were all called to the scene of a car being hit by a train early Tuesday Afternoon.

The report was that a train had struck a car just south of the Esopus Avenue railroad crossing.

According to the press release from the Esopus Fire Department, the first unit arrived at the scene within minutes of the call. The report was a head-on MVA (Motor Vehicle Accident) but no patients were present or in the vehicle that had been struck.

The firefighters and police officers who responded searched the area along the railroad tracks for what is reported to be approximately 2 hours. They were looking for a driver and a passenger.

The driver of the vehicle that collided with the train was eventually located in a wooded area that was said to be a distance from the original scene.

Once the person was located by police they were brought to the ambulance by the firefighters and police. The Town of Esopus Ambulance transported the patient to the Health Alliance of the Hudson Valley.

Due to the investigation and nature of the accident train traffic was stopped for a reported 3 hours.

Local road crossings did remain open. Numerous social media community pages made people aware that there was an accident near Esopus Avenue which also helped people re-route themselves during the time the incident was unfolding.
