It's been a crazy few years for Yankee fans. Derek Jeter retires and the Yanks miss the playoffs for 2 straight years, until now.

It was a long road but it finally happened last night in the Bronx as the New York Yankee's have clinched a wild card spot in the playoffs after beating the Red Sox 4-1 for the franchise's 10,000th regular-season win.

Carlos Beltran homered along with rookies Greg Bird and Rob Refsnyder on a rainy, cold night. C.C. Sabathia allowed one run in five innings to win the clinching game.

The Yankees had failed to reach the playoffs in consecutive years for the first time since its 1982-93 drought, just before the start of a run that will probably never be done again. A run that included five World Series titles and seven AL pennants from 1996-2009.

Next up for the Yankee's could be the Houston Astros, who leads the race for the second wild card, or the Angels or Minnesota, tied a game behind the Astros.

The wild card game will most likely have Masahiro Tanaka on the mound.

The winner of the Wild Card Game will advance to a Division Series against East champion Toronto or Central winner Kansas City.

We will have all your post season Yankee coverage live on your radio 94.3/97.3 The Wolf.
