The iconic convenience store chain Wawa has announced they are expanding and planning to open new stores in 8 states.

Did you know that there are over 150,000 convenience stores across the country? No matter where you live in New York, almost every town/city has at least one convenience store nearby and thankfully in the Hudson Valley we have numerous choices when it comes to picking a store to run into to grab whatever it is we are looking for but there's one store many of us are wishing would come to our town.

Convenience Stores in New York

There are somewhere in the neighborhood of 10,000 convenience stores across all of New York, familiar names like Stewart's Shop, QuickChek, 7-Eleven, and Speedway have locations all over the place but there's one popular name that's missing. Almost every time we talked about convenience stores many across New York wonder why don't we have any Wawa stores. It's a question that has gone unanswered for years and now it appears that Wawa has announced they are expanding into 8 states! So will New York finally get a Wawa store?

What is a Wawa?

If you've never been to a Wawa before you are missing out out on some great coffee, drinks, snacks, and their famous "Hoagies" (sub/hero...LOL). I said it before, I look forward to driving into New Jersey and Delaware just so I can stop at a Wawa for a couple of hoagies...so good! If you've been to a Wawa you are well aware that New York could really use a few stores, right?

Wawa Avoids New York, Again!

Yes, New York failed to be a part of the expansion plans once again and apparently, the reason they are avoiding New York again is the same reason they abandoned us in the late 1990s. According to their Wikipedia page, Wawa left the New York metropolitan area because "it was too competitive." The city might be too competitive for Wawa but what about the Hudson Valley? Does anyone else think the Hudson Valley would be a perfect area for Wawa to test out New York one last time? There are so many locations in the area that would be a perfect fit for a Wawa, with this location in Wappingers Falls, NY on the corner of Route 9 and Old Hopewell Road being my first choice...
