Sad Reason Why Wappingers School is Dismissing Students Early This Week

A Wappingers Central School District High School is dismissing students early this week for something other than the weather.

Last week we shared the sad news that one of the biggest school districts in the Hudson Valley announced that one of its more popular teachers within the district had passed away. Kerri Roger, a longtime teacher in the Wappingers Central School District passed away last Thursday, January 11th after a courageous battle with cancer.

Kerri Roger Passes Away

44-year-old Kerri Roger, a longtime teacher and coach at John Jay High School in Hopewell Junction, NY sadly passed away last Thursday, January 11th, after a years-long battle with cancer. The Hopewell Junction, NY native was a member of the faculty at John Jay High School for 20+ years and left behind numerous students and fellow teachers who will remember her as not only a great teacher and coach but as one of the sweetest and most thoughtful people you could ever meet.

Wappingers High School Closes Earlier to Remember Teacher

John Jay High School principal David Kedzielawa shared news of Ms. Roger's passing with students, staff, and the community through a message on the district's website saying, "It is with a heavy heart and deep sorrow that I share the sad news of the passing of one of our cherished educators, Kerri Roger." Dr. Dwight Bonk, the Superintendent of Schools in Wappingers followed Kedzielawa's message by informing students and their families that John Jay High School is going to be dismissing students early on Tuesday, January 16th,

"Due to the passing of Ms. Roger, John Jay HS will be dismissed early on Tuesday, January 16 at 9:30 a.m. to provide an opportunity for students and staff to come together to mourn, remember, and pay their respects at her funeral. All other Schools in our District will remain on a regular schedule."

Kerri Roger Funeral Arrangements

According to the folks at Mchoul Funeral Home services (visitation) for Kerri Ruth Roger will take place on Monday, January 15, 2024, from 2 p.m. through 6 p.m. at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc. located at 895 Route 82 in Hopewell Junction, New York.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, January 16th, starting at 10 a.m. at the Hopewell Reformed Church located at 143 Beekman Road in Hopewell Junction, NY, followed by a burial at the Hopewell Cemetery at 84 Beekman Rd, Hopewell Junction.

Kerri Roger Memorial Scholarship

In remembrance of Kerri Roger a scholarship has been established in her name, the Kerri Roger Memorial Scholarship.
