Wappingers School District Mourns Loss of Amazing Teacher
A beloved teacher in the Wappingers Central School District has sadly passed away.
Students, staff, and the entire Wappingers Falls, Hopewell Junction, and East Fishkill, New York community are mourning the loss today of one of the Wappingers Central School District's most dedicated teachers and coaches.

Ms. Roger, a longtime teacher and coach at John Jay High School in Hopewell Junction, NY has sadly passed away Thursday, January 11th, after a years-long battle with cancer. The Hopewell Junction native Roger was 44 years old and beloved by many at John Jay High School. The news of Ms. Roger's passing was shared with the school community by high school principal David Kedzielawa, who wrote,
"It is with a heavy heart and deep sorrow that I share the sad news of the passing of one of our cherished educators, Kerri Roger."
The message continued saying that Roger was an alum of John Jay High School graduating in 1997 and was a beloved member of the school's math department for 21 years. Roger was also a major part of the success of the school's field hockey and crew programs coaching both programs for years.
"Ms. Roger was known for her kindness, compassion, and sense of humor. She had a unique ability to connect with students, making the learning experience not only educational but also enjoyable" said Kezielawa.

As news of Ms. Roger's passing was made public the school announced that because news like this can be difficult to deal with, they will be offering students, staff, and parents access to support staff throughout the school this week. Funeral arrangements have not been announced, when they are available we will update this article.
