New Yorkers Can Grab Part of the $100 Million Verizon Settlement
If you are a Verizon customer, here's how to file a claim for your share of a huge settlement. Act now before it's too late!
Last year the wireless giant Verizon settled a massive lawsuit that was filed by current and former customers and now it appears that any customer that wants a share of the $100 million will have to file a claim no later than April 15th, 2024.
Verizon Lawsuit
The lawsuit which was filed last year claimed that Verizon deceived subscribers by adding an additional "administrative charge" to their service bills without telling customers about the charge according to CBS. The lawsuit also claimed that Verizon "never adequately or honestly disclosed" the extra fee to its customers before they subscribed, and "uniformly charged them higher monthly rates than it advertised and promised." Verizon hasn't admitted any wrongdoing in the settlement but has agreed to pay out $100 million.
Am I Eligible for Verizon Settlement?
If you are a current Verizon customer or had Verizon service between January 1st, 2016, and November 8th, 2023, and had a "postpaid wireless or data service plan" and were charged an "Administrative Charge and/or an Administrative and Telco Recovery charge" you are eligible for a part of the settlement. To clarify a "postpaid wireless plan" is a plan that has subscribers pay for the services at the end of a monthly billing cycle, which is the most common way subscribers pay for their services.

How Much Could I Get?
Customers who are eligible could receive anywhere from $15 up to $100, depending on the length of time they've been a Verizon customer according to the settlement website. To file a claim customers need to complete an online form, which you can find here. Personally, I filled out the form yesterday and it only took a couple of minutes to complete. You can also print out a claims form here, and after you complete it you'll need to mail it to the address listed on the form.
It's unclear when eligible customers will receive payment but if you don't file a claim by April 15th you will not receive compensation and will also forfeit your right to sue Verizon over the allegations in the settlement.
