The Hudson Valley Will See a Full Moon on Friday the 13th

Friday the 13th is coming in hot with a spooky moon. Well at least that's what the headlines are saying, right?

According to NASA, we'll have a full moon this Friday, September 13th. While many are saying it has spooky connotations, it's actually useful. NASA explains that the full moon that is closest to the autumnal equinox (September 23rd, 2019) is called the Harvest Moon because "During the harvest season farmers sometimes need to work late into the night by the light of the Moon."

Fun fact: in other parts of the world the Harvest Moon is known as: the Fruit Moon, the Barley Moon, the Corn Moon and the Mid-Autumn Festival Moon

If you're looking to catch the spooky Harvest Moon this weekend, your best bet is to look up in the sky on Friday night. However, the moon will be at it's fullest around 12:33 am on September 14th.

As a side note, the official start to fall is 3:50 am on Monday morning September 23rd.
