Fast Water Rescues Required Skilled Teams Who Train

Fast water rescue is something our Hudosn Valley first responders practice. They actually have training places for fire departments, and others can go to learn the dos and don'ts of rescuing someone from fast-moving water.

We have had some flooding recently in the Hudson Valley and you have heard the reminders to never drive through stand water or moving water no matter how swallow you may think it is the reason for this is all to often the water is deeper than it appears and worst it could have a current you can't see.

Multiple Fire Departments Called to Swift Water Rescue In Sullivan County

On Thursday at approximately 1:33 AM, a swift water rescue team had to go into action in Sullivan County. In a social post shared by the Rock Hill Fire Department, it doesn't say how the truck in the photo ended up in the moving water, however, it does mention how the rescue was executed.

Special Operations Task Force Used in Sullivan County Swift Water Rescue

The Rock Hill-Roscoe-Rockland Special Operations Task Force was requested by the Hancock Fire Department to assist with a vehicle that was reportedly in the water. When teams arrived, they were told the driver was out of the truck and on the way to the hospital.

According to the post, there was concern about others who might have been in the truck. They checked the truck and cleared it. While that was happening, a UAS pilot from the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office did an aerial search for anyone on the surrounding river banks. None were found. Everything was wrapped up by 4 AM.

A swift water rescue is when first responders have to enter moving water that may even have whitecaps or whitewater. Trained personnel use ropes, personal training, and other mechanical systems to rescue people from the moving water.
