Stores That Could Replace New York ShopRite’s When They Close

ShopRite announced a bunch of New York store closings which has many wondering what should replace them. Here are 5 stores that would be perfect!

Big news from the grocery store world landed earlier this week in New York when ShopRite confirmed that they are closing numerous locations across New York including the store on Route 209 in the Town of Wawarsing, New York.

ShopRite in Wawarsing, NY Closing

The ShopRite location at 1 Shoprite Blvd, Ellenville, NY has been one of only a few grocery store choices for area residents for the last 30 years. The store opened back in 1993 and for a while was Ellenville, and the surrounding area's main choice for groceries. That changed when Walmart opened (2013?) and could be one of the reasons why the store has decided to not renew its lease when it expires, which means the store should be closed by the summer of 2024 according to the Daily Freeman.

Is Anything Going to Take ShopRite's Place in Ellenville, New York?

When news began to spread that the store would be closing in the summer of 2024 many in, and around Ellenville began wondering if another grocery store would be moving in or not. Ellenville Mayor Jeff Kaplan told the Freeman that residents are "very hopeful that another large supermarket chain will find that spot worth investing." He also said that they are currently investigating to see if they can find a compatible store to replace them when they leave.
