Starving Baby Bear Discovered Near Popular Trails in the Catskills
One of our dedicated wildlife rescues has done it again; they have taken in another orphaned bear to rehab and eventually turn it back out once it is strong enough.
The Friends of the Feathered and Furry Wildlife Center (FFFWC) in Hunter, New York has come to the rescue of a very tiny bear who appears to have somehow made it through out cold winter in the Hudosn Valley on his own. Underweight and in need of care, this little guy was lucky to be spotted.
According to the post and video shared by the FFFWC this small bear cub was discovered weak and barely able to walk on Hunter Mountain near the trails. The FFFWC assumes he lost his mom but was able to find enough food to stay alive until the warmer weather.

When a member of the FFFWC responded to assist the baby black bear, he was able to pick him up, which is unusual and speaks to how weak the little guy really was; he only weighed 15 pounds. Bears of this age usually come in at around 40 pounds, so he is underweight.

The FFFWC was able to get the cub to take food, soft at first and later food that was more solid. The video they shared shows how well the little guy is doing, and if he keeps thriving, he will be able to join the 6 other cubs that the FFFWC has been caring for over the winter.
