Some Interesting Facts About Plattekill
We've been having some beautiful weather around here lately and I was driving the other day with all my windows down and ended up going through Plattekill.
I was in a hurry, but when I got back to the station I wanted to look up a little more about Plattekill and find out some history about it.
On Wiki it mentions that Plattekill became established during the 1800s.
Now this is something I found pretty cool, there is a building here that is on the National Register of Historic Places.
The first owner hailed from New Jersey and his name was Johannis Shuart.
The Shuart-Van Orden Stone House is one of the oldest buildings that can be found in the town. Peter Van Orden was an early settler who purchased the home opened up a store right near by.
Another thing Van Orden did while he occupied the house was open up a distillery in the town.
The house went through some major renovations and it says the new owners found some "previously hidden parts" of the home. Hmmmm...I wonder what that means?
