Arlington High School Wins Big With Tale of Lizzie Borden
Have you ever heard of something called Winter Guard? I hadn't either until I started to see posts about one of our Hudosn Valley High Schools celebrating their big win.
I am dating myself but I don't believe we had anything like this when I went to Cornwall Central High School. Maybe the closest thing might have been the drill team but honestly, that doesn't reach the artistic level of Winter Guard.
What is Winter Guard in the Hudson Valley
If you look it up it is called the Sport of the Arts. The Winter Guard International (WGI) is the world's premier organization for producing indoor color guard, percussion, and winds competitions. WGI is the governing body for the non-profit youth organization.

WGI is called the Sports of the Arts because it brings music together with performance in a competition format. According to the WGI website they have 45 years of history and the sport continues to evolve. There is an estimated 40,000 participants at the regional level and 12,000 participants attended the Sport of the Arts World Championships this year.
The Arlington High School Admiral Winterguard competed at the World Championships this year with their performance of Lizzie. The flawless performance won the team the World Championship. I have the performance below. Be sure to watch until the end to see the team's emotional reaction to their performance.
