Local supermarkets are in a heated competition for your business, and one store is upping their game.

You may have noticed that your local supermarket is making some big changes. A grocery war is going on in our area, with stores doing everything they can to earn your business.

From online ordering to home delivery to portable scanners in the store, Hudson Valley supermarket chains are doing their best to make your shopping experience as quick and enjoyable as possible. And now one grocery store is taking things to a new level.

Recent renovations at area supermarkets have brought larger aisles, fresher produce and new amenities to their stores. Last year ShopRite unveiled several completely remodeled stores throughout the Hudson Valley. Now, Hannaford is following suit as they begin the grand opening of their newly remodeled supermarket on Route 9 in Wappingers.

Starting May 17, the Hannaford on Route 9 in Wappingers Falls will kick off a month-long grand opening event. The store has undergone a major remodel that has added several new services and in-store offerings. Customers will now be able to enjoy fresh sushi from Hannaford's new in-store sushi chef. The store has also started offering a new stir-fry bar, hand-battered fried chicken, in-store prepared sandwiches and salads, and a hot bar with entree options. The store has also expanded its seafood department which now has a larger selection of freshly cut grab-and-go seafood.

In addition to the store’s remodeled produce department, the pharmacy has also been upgraded with a private consultation department to receive immunizations or consult with a pharmacist.

Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through June 6 the store will be offering free food sampling, giveaways and other activities to celebrate their grand re-opening.
