For residents in the Kingston, Port Ewen area the upgrade is well over due and will finally happen.

The bridge which used to be called the Rondout Creek Bridge is now know as the Wurts Street Bridge, will undergo a $20 million restoration project in a few years.

According to the Times Herald Record and The Department of Transportation, the bridge that connects Kingston and Port Ewen will be renovated starting in the winter of 2021-2022.

The local bridge was opened in 1921 and had a big part in keeping things moving way back when as it was the final part of New York's first north to south highway on the west bank of the Hudson River.

The DOT told the Record that state and federal funds will pay for the project and there is no word on how long the resoration will take.

The last time the bridge had any work done to it or any improvements, was over a decade ago.
