New York Ski Slope Has Reasons to be Grateful After Disastrous Fire
One Hudson Valley ski slope has a lot to be grateful for after a fire burned through one of its buildings. Fortunately the ski season is over so that Holiday Mountain in Monticello will have time to rebuild the pumphouse.
High Winds Lead to Fire at Holiday Mountain Ski Slope in Sullivan County New York
Last Friday, Holiday Mountain Ski Area shared a video on Facebook about a fire at their pumphouse. High winds brought down a utility pole with transformers on it. According to the post when the transformers landed they sparked causing the newly built pumphouse to catch fire.

Holiday Mountain was grateful that the Rock Hill Fire Department responded quickly along with NYSEG who was able to cut the power to the mountain preventing any other fires from igniting.
The pumphouse is the epicenter of all the snow-making equipment for the ski slope. It is where you will find all the controls for the snow-making machines that Holiday Mountain has installed over the last two years.

Fortunately, the Rock Hill Fire Department got right to work and along with NYSEG they were able to prevent further damage. Holiday Mountain thanked them for their quick responded and also took time to recognize others who also helped during the fire and during its aftermath.
Holiday Mountain expressed gratitude to the Monticello Fire Department, the Rock Hill Volunteer Ambulance Corp, Empress EMS, Verizon, Spectrum, the New York State Troopers, Sullivan County Sheriff's Department, Clean Harbors Environmental Services, American Electric, Sikorski Construction, NGS Excavation, Speciality Systems & Ratnik Industries the snowmaking gurus, plus the Town of Thompson Building Department and Mountain Guard Insurance.
Holiday Mountain was also grateful that no one was hurt, that it happened while the staff was on the mountain, and that this happened in March at the end of the ski season instead of mid-December.
