
Surveillance Cameras Help Lead to Gun Arrests in Poughkeepsie
More and more police agencies across the Hudson Valley are turning to surveillance-style technology to help track suspects and criminal activity, and now one recent arrest in Dutchess County is showing exactly how that technology is being used.
Earlier this month, we told you about the growing number of “Flock” cameras popping up across Dutchess County and other parts of the Hudson Valley. The cameras are designed to help law enforcement identify license plates and vehicle characteristics in real time, including make, model, color, and other identifying features.
At the time, many wondered if the cameras were really helpful or not. It appears they are working in Poughkeepsie.

Car Flagged by License Plate Camera in Poughkeepsie, NY
According to the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, officers conducted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Malibu on May 15th, 2026, after the vehicle was flagged by the Dutchess County Analysis and Real Time Crime Intelligence Center (ARTCIC) as potentially being involved in criminal activity.

During the stop, police determined that the driver, identified as 19-year-old J’Amori J. Douglas of Poughkeepsie, was allegedly driving with a suspended license. Officers also reportedly recovered three loaded illegal handguns from inside the vehicle.

Poughkeepsie Men Arrested
Authorities arrested four Poughkeepsie residents following the investigation, including Douglas, 19-year-old Shaheem Jackson, 21-year-old Justin A. Forbes, and 18-year-old Nasir Garcia.
According to police, Douglas, Forbes, and Jackson were each charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and three additional weapon possession charges related to high-capacity magazines. Douglas was also charged with criminal possession of cannabis and aggravated unlicensed operation.
Garcia was charged with multiple weapon possession charges as well, including three counts of criminal possession of a weapon and four additional related charges.
Following their arrests, all four men were arraigned in the Town of Poughkeepsie Justice Court and sent to the Dutchess County Jail.
