
Popular Dutchess County Train Stop Will Now Be Closed for 2 Years
CLOSED: Breakneck Ridge MTA Stop is Closed Until Further Notice
Starting on Monday, April 21st, 2025, the Metro-North's Hudson Line, will be closed as the first phase of construction of the Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail beings.
Construction will take a reported 2 years and the area will be open again in 2027.
According to a press release shared by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, most commonly known as The MTA, the Breakneck Ridge and other area hiking trails will also be closed during this construction.

The press release goes on to explain that the project will connect Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve trailheads between Cold Spring and Beacon.
It looks like the project will bring much needed updates and upgrades to the area.
"More Attractive Than Ever" Breakneck Ridge Station Will Undergo Major Upgrades
In the statement released to the MTA website Metro-North Railroad President Justin Vonashek said:
“When this project is completed, Metro-North riders will once again have direct access to one of New York’s most popular hiking destinations and safer passage to Hudson Highlands State Park.
Adding “And the renovated and upgraded Breakneck Ridge station will make it more attractive than ever to take the train to the trails.”
Not only will the MTA line be updated, but so will access for the trailheads by Route 9D.
Future Improvements To Look Forward to at Breakneck Ridge Trail Head
There's a whole website dedicated to all of the details regarding the Fjord Trail's Breakneck Connector Bridge.
The website explains that future improvements include off-road parking areas the west of Route 9D, The Breakneck Ridge Bridge over the train tracks, and increased access to the river and a new Lower Overlook at the foot of Breakneck Ridge.
Anyone who visits the Beacon area in the warmer months and fall knows just how crazy it can get with out of town hikers visiting the area. These updates will make it a much safer hiking community for all.
