Local Hudson Valley law enforcement is mourning the loss of one of their own.

Orange County, New York Lieutenant Passes Away Off Duty

On Sunday April 27th, 2025 The Orange County Sheriff's Office took to social media to share heartbreaking news about one of their own.

In the statement posted to Facebook the Orange County Sheriff's Office writes "Our agency is deeply saddened by the loss of Lieutenant William Proscia. Lt. Proscia‘s contributions and dedication to our community, agency, and members will truly be missed."

While the statement does not give a cause of death, it does allude to the fact that the death happened off duty.

Law Enforcement Agencies Across The Hudson Valley Honor Lt. Proscia

As news of Lt. Proscia's death became known across local Hudson Valley communities, agencies Proscia worked for shared their condolences.

Orange County New York Correction Officers Benevolent Association wrote on Facebook "Though his passing was not in the line of duty, it reminds us of the sacrifices that all our first responders make every day, even outside of uniform."

Adding:

William was not only a dedicated coworker but also a beloved friend, mentor, and family member.

The Village of Montgomery shared their condolences as well sharing "Officer Proscia worked with the Village of Montgomery since January 2023 and he has touched everyone at this agency."

They continued in the post writing

He was more than an employee, he was a friend. First to reach out in times of need, trustworthy, caring, and fiercely loyal.

Retired NYPD Officer Working in Hudson Valley Dies in Tragic Accident

Officer Proscia's death comes weeks after another Orange County agency said goodbye to one of their own after a tragic accident.
On March 23rd, 2025 The  Washingtonville Police Department shared in a press release that Police Officer Jose Santiago was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident.
They write:
Officer Santiago was a dedicated and respected member of our department, serving with honor, integrity and an unwavering commitment to his community. His loss is immeasurable, and he will be deeply missed by his fellow officers, friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Officer Santiago was a retired NYPD officer and worked for The Village of Montgomery Police Department and the Village of Washingtonville Police.
