Things took a surprising turn in Newburgh this afternoon. According to a statement released by the City of Newburgh,  the City Comptroller resigned today and was then subsequently arrested.

The press release was quite short, stating only that Mr. John Aber resigned his position as City Comptroller with the City of Newburgh, effective immediately. Apparently there was an investigation pending regarding grand larceny which is related to his resignation, and he has been arrested.  According to the City of Newburgh, City Manager Michael Ciaravino has appointed Kathryn Mack as Acting Comptroller.

According to Hudson Valley News Network, John Aber was hired as Newburgh's Comptroller in 2013 and had previously worked as New York City's Chief Financial Officer for the Department of Consumer Affairs.

While no numbers, in terms of the amount of money involved, have been released yet, as this story develops and we obtain more information, we will pass those details on to you.
