Police Officers Make Heroic Save at Greenwood Lake, New York Waterfront
The Scuba diving search and rescue team from the Greenwood Lake Police Department was in the right place at the right time.
Local Scuba Search and Rescue Team Saves Woman & Dog in Distress
2 law enforcement officers were at the right place at the right time on Friday, May 3rd, 2024.
Sergeant Daniel Jones and Detective Jason Dwyer, who are both active members of the Greenwood Lake Police Department's scuba diving search and rescue team, were at Senator Morahan Beach that afternoon. The 2 were setting up the swim ropes and securing the swim platform when, according to a statement posted to the Greenwood Lake PBA Facebook page, they noticed a woman and her dog in the water, in distress.
The statement goes on to explain both Sergeant Jones and Detective Dwyer "without hesitation" sprang into action "demonstrating their extensive training and expertise in water rescue techniques." They were able to reach the swimmer and dog and bring them back to safety.
The Greenwood Lake PBA writes:
Their heroic efforts today, Friday May 3, 2024 at Senator Morahan Beach undoubtedly saved the lives of a female subject and her beloved K9 companion.
Recent Beacon, New York Water Rescue
About 2 weeks ago, Beacon Water rescue teams were dispatched to the Hudson River after getting reports of a kayaker in distress.
Teams from Beacon Volunteer Ambulance, Ambulnz, New Hamburg Fire, and City of Newburgh Firefighters were on the scene quickly and were able to get a flotation device to the struggling kayaker thanks to the Bannerman Island tour boat.

The kayaker was then taken to safety and refused medical attention.
