Veterans Build Kayaks By Hand in Saugerties, New York
Last week they shared that after years of searching and lots of back and forth they finally have a workshop for one of their signature programs, Wooden Kayak Building.
HVNCVR’S biggest challenge from the beginning, a long term and stable workspace. Now, after several years of searching, months of negotiations, and the support of our amazing staff and community partners, we have found a long term home!! (via HVNCRV Facebook)
With the acquisition of 24 Twin Maples Plaza a space once occupied by Nelsen Supply Company which closed in 2019, the HVNCRV will be able to do more. They now have a huge workspace plus plenty of office space and a parking lot. They plan to be in the new build before the end of the year.
If you aren't familiar with the HVNCRV's work with building wooden kayaks be sure to go to the website hvncrv.org. it is explained in full but the highlights are that the group works together to build a wooden Kayak "from the water up". The program is open to Veterans, regardless of rank, branch, or discharge status.
