Ulster Police Asking for Help Identifying Suspect in Church Burglary

The Ulster Police Department is asking for the public's help as detectives work to identify a man they say broke into a local church and stole money and other property.

Man Breaks Into Church in Ulster County, NY

According to the Ulster Police Department, the burglary happened on Friday, August 21, around 7:30 p.m. at New Life Church, located at 15 Swart Lane off State Route 32 near the Town of Saugerties town line.

Police say the suspect approached the church on foot from State Route 32 before forcing his way through a rear door.

Once inside, the suspect reportedly remained in the church for several hours, damaged property while inside the building before eventually leaving on foot in an unknown direction. Police say the suspect stole currency from the church, along with a dark-colored Summit Ridge backpack.

The Ulster Police Department has now released images of the man and is hoping someone in the community recognizes him.

Can You Identify This Man?

According to detectives, the suspect is described as a white male with short brown hair, a beard, and a tattoo on the right side of his neck. At the time of the burglary, police say he was wearing a maroon Carhartt crewneck sweatshirt, cargo shorts and boots.

The department's Detective Division is asking anyone who may recognize the man or have information about the burglary to come forward.

Police are continuing to investigate the burglary and are asking anyone who may have seen someone walking in the area of State Route 32 and Swart Lane around the time of the incident to contact detectives.
