One of the best places to introduce people to all the different wildlife in the Hudson Valley is the Trailside Museums and Zoo at Bear Mountain State Park. Since 1927, they have been helping people learn about the animals that share our woods.

Hudson Valley Zoo Welcomes Two New Animals

I can remember growing up in Orange County and visiting the zoo during school trips and later with family and friends. It was always a treat to go there and see animals up close, some of which you were seeing for the first time.

When I was younger, I didn't remember as many wildlife encounters as we have now. Of course, I also grew up way before cell phones, so any sightings of bears and such were almost considered lore more than fact.

The animals that call the Trailside Museums and Zoo home become permanent residents because they can no longer live in the wild. Something or some person has created a situation where they would not thrive. Animal rehabbers will contact The Trailsides Museum and Zoo when they are caring for an animal that fits that criteria, which was the case for the two newest residents.

Meet Finn and Aurora, the newest Animal Ambassadors at the Bear Mountain Zoo

This week, the Trailside Museums and Zoo at Bear Mountain State Park introduced the Hudson Valley to their two newest Animal Ambassadors, Finn and Aurora. They are red foxes who came to the zoo to find their forever home.

Finn, a male red fox who is about 4 years old, only has three legs after one got caught in a trap. He would have difficulty hunting for himself, so he will now be cared for and loved at the zoo.

The female red fox Aurora, who is believed to be 8 years old, was raised illegally since she was small by humans, so she is imprinted on people and is too people-friendly to be in the wild.
