The Trailside Museums and Zoo at Bear Mountain State Park announced over the weekend that Loki the Eastern Coyote that called Trailside Museums and Zoo his home has died. Loki was 13 years old and had lived at the zoo since 2012.

Loki's story with the Bear Mountain Zoo begins when he is discovered as an orphan near Syracuse, New York. He arrived at the zoo in 2012 and by 2014 was living in a new forest enclosure which he enjoyed for more than a decade.

The forest enclosure allowed him to develop his natural instincts. The zoo described him as:

Curious, cautious, acutely aware of his surroundings and playful, Loki embodied many of the traits of the Eastern Coyote. (Trailside Museums and Zoo at Bear Mountain State Park via Facebook)

Loki will be missed greatly by zoo staff and visitors. He was just one of the many wild animals that called the Bear Mountain Zoo home. The zoo is home to New York wildlife such as owls, bears, a bobcat, and even an opossum named Luigi.

Trailside houses injured or orphaned native wildlife that cannot be released back into the wild. We will be waiting for animals that fit our mission and that we can ensure a good quality of life in captivity. (Trailside Museums and Zoo at Bear Mountain State Park via Facebook)
