My Problem With the Plastic Bag Ban
I know I can't be the only one who feels this way.
We all know about the new law in New York State where plastic bags are banned from stores. All stores should be plastic-less by March 1st, 2020.
I do not have a problem with the plastic bag ban. I actually think it's great that we're trying to take small steps to take care of the planet. However, it's the alternative that I have an issue with.
No, I'm not talking about the reusable bags. I'm talking about paper bags.
While in Hannaford the other day, I realized I left my 3 reusable bags at home. I told myself I wasn't going to buy anymore and that I would just deal with the paper bags.
Let me tell you...these paper bags caused me more stress than I was expecting. There were no handles on the said paper bag so I had to awkwardly pick it up from the bottom. Thankfully there was only one bag. The poor guy next to me had several and his situation was giving me anxiety. It took him at least 3 minutes to get situated to walk out of the store.
Don't even get me started on taking the handle-less paper bag out of my car. It almost toppled over when I picked it up.
I digress.
I'm all for the plastic bag ban, but we need some better options to fill that void. Please New York State, just add a handle to the paper bags.
