According to a press release from the Esopus Fire Department and accident at the intersection of Route 9W and Ulster Avenue resulted in multiple injuries. On Tuesday morning, January 22nd just after 8:30 am the Esopus Fire Department and the Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad responded to an accident that involved a car, an SUV and a van. The first responding unit arrived with in minutes and discovered that one person was entrapped in a vehicle.

Firefighters used the "Jaws of Life" to remove the one injured person who was entrapped. It took those rescue workers about 20 minutes to get the patient freed from the the vehicle. Mutual Aid ambulances were requested to assist with a total of 8 patients. According to the release A medevac helicopter was requested but end up being cancelled due to the amount of time it would take to arrive.

Patients were taking to Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital of West Chester Medical Center in Poughkeepsie by Esopus Ambulance and Mobile Life Support Services. The accident resulted in that area of 9W being closed for about an hour and a half.

Esopus Firefighters were assisted by the Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad, Highland Hose Company, Port Ewen Fire Dept, Rifton Fire Dept, Mobile Life Support, New Paltz Rescue, NDP EMS, Ulster County Emergency Services, Ulster County DPW, NYS DOT, Ulster County Sherriff’s Office, New York State Fire and the New York State Police.

At the time of this article the cause of the accident has not be disclosed.
