West Point Releases Missing Cadet's Name

West Point has just released the identity of the missing cadet as the search for him continues.

It was reported Monday that a cadet from West Point went missing along with an M4 rifle. Not many other details were available at that time.

According to a press release, West Point identified the cadet as 20-year-old Kade Kurita, from California.

The search for Kurita continues since his last appearance at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Suspicion arose after the cadet failed to appear for a test on campus.

"There has been no cell phone or financial activity in over 72 hours,” said Col. Cecil Marson, garrison commander of West Point. “This leads us to believe that he is still in the vicinity of West Point.”

An M4 rifle was also reported to be missing as well but all the ammunition and magazines for the firearm were accounted for.

According to the release, both the New York State police and the Military Police are searching for Kurita. Over 100 soldiers from Fort Drum arrived in the Hudson Valley to assist in the search.

Authorities maintain he is not a danger to the public but a criminal investigation is underway.
