April Frost Brings Trouble to Local Hudson Valley Farms

Back in April 2026 Mother Nature was having a field day.

One week it went from temperatures in the 80s and 90s to dipping under 30 degrees. While the heat was a welcomed reprieve from the harsh winter, the drastic change from high to low temperatures messed with local crops.

During the late April frost local Hudson Valley farms did what they could to save their crops.

Farms lit huge bonfires and used industrial sized fans, and some used helicopters, to push warm air around.

Unfortunately, many of the crops were affected by the cold. Now, we're learning what crops were hardest hit.

Fishkill Farms Shares Crop Update Following April Cold Front

The staff at Fishkill Farms was one of the local farms that used different methods to keep their crops safe during the April frost.

While their efforts went above and beyond, many of their crops were affected.

In an update posted to their social media accounts Fishkill Farms writes "Because fruit can only grow from healthy blossoms, the frost dramatically reduced this year's harvest."

Fishkill Farms explains the depths of the damage adding:

We lost all of our cherries, and our peach and pear crops were also heavily affected.

 

They share that a few of their donut peach varieties and late season peaches seem to be okay, and there will be limited peach picking later in the summer.

Did the Frost Ruin Fishkill Farms Apple Crop?

On a positive note several of Fishkill Farms crops remained unharmed.

Fishkill Farms had a great Strawberry season. Here's a breakdown of the other crops that are doing well this season: Currants, Raspberries, and Blueberries are rip and or ripening.

Flowers are blooming and Fishkill Farms writes "Vegetables are thriving."

With that being said, their apple crops was affected, but they say "we're optimistic we'll still have enough for a wonderful fall harvest season." Read their full Crop Update statement below:
