If you have ever headed out to the Taconic Parkway via 308 and Route 199 in Dutchess County you will immediately recognize what I am about to share. I also won't have to explain the fork in the road.

Milan, New York is an interesting little town it has the distinction of being a place where towns converge. Maybe you have seen it, the Fork in the Road where Route 308 merges with Route 199. The fork was installed by the artist Steve Schreiber. The fork and that spot make where 3 towns converge.

At that intersection three Dutchess County towns come together, Rhinebeck, Red Hook, and Milan. That spot is referred to as Rock City.

Milan, New York has a population of just over 2,200 according to the 2020 census. The area that makes up Milan dates back to 1706 and the Little Nine Partners Patent. It is a farming and mill town that has managed to stay rural even though it is located just minutes from the Taconic State Parkway.

When you travel Route 199 through Milan you get a feel for how rural it really is but you never feel too far off the beaten path. It is a nice mix of somewhere and nowhere all wrapped up into one.

Places that are popular to visit near Milan include:

In 2002 according to Wikipedia the Town of Milan was able to stop Red Wing Sand and Gravel of East Fishkill from being able to mine part of the town. That was also the same year the Durst Organization bought the Carvel Country Club in hopes of making a second home and recreation community.
