According to the Times Herald Record, on Monday (November 7th) Officer Kyle Mahoney of the Monroe Police Department began chasing down a suspect from the Shoprite Plaza. Officer Mahoney saw an employee from a nearby Rite Aid chasing a man through the plaza. The employee told Mahoney that the man, later identified as Jesse Boniface, has stolen items from Rite Aid.

Boniface, 44 of Middletown, got into a car and the chase began. Office Mahoney followed in pursuit. The chase, which later involved other police agencies, went through Monroe, Bloomingrove and Chester. Officers say the pursuit ended when Boniface purposely crashed his vehicle on RT 17M in Chester. Allegedly, Boniface yelled to officers that he was going to kill himself. Then proceeded to slashed his throat. The Monroe Police officers acted quickly and administered first aid then transferred Boniface to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

Boniface is in stable condition.
