Something is Wrong at This Poughkeepsie Intersection
After keeping notes for the last week or so I have come to the conclusion that I am NOT losing my mind but that there is something definitely wrong at this Poughkeepsie, NY intersection.
For the last week or so I have been keeping track of something that some might think is rather odd. I understand that some people bird watch, others paint, me? I'm the guy whose hobby is to keep track of how long I have to sit at red lights all over the Hudson Valley. I'm not sure how it started but often times while I'm sitting at a red light I'll start to time how long I'm sitting there.
Timing Traffic Lights?
Let me be clear I don't do this at every light I hit but, after what's been happening to me at a specific light in Poughkeepsie over the last week I'm glad I did it this time.
Here's What Happened
It all started last week while I was driving into work from my house in the Town of Poughkeepsie and as I drove down Hooker Ave, I turned right onto South Grand Ave like I always do. When I got to the traffic light at the intersection of the eastbound side of the arterial (Baker Ave) I noticed that something was "off" with the wait time for the light to turn green. I sat there for over 4 minutes waiting for the light to turn from red to green. It never turned so I peaked the nose of my car onto the arterial and "sneaked" through.
Traffic Light in Poughkeepsie is Driving Drivers CRAZY!
That was last Wednesday and it happened again on Thursday and by Friday I thought I was losing my mind....LOL! I didn't use the light over the weekend but on Monday it was the same thing and on Tuesday when I approached the light there were a few cars in front of me so I couldn't sneak through so we waited there for 5 minutes until the light turned green and when it finally flipped green it only stayed green for less than 5 seconds.

I was the fourth car in line and when the light switched to green the 2 cars in front made it, but me and the car in front got a red light AGAIN!! At this point, we both waited a few seconds and both broke the law and slowly crossed the arterial. I would never tell any driver to cross the fast-moving arterial without having a green light so if you drive near the intersection I'm referring to use extra caution.
I'm not sure who I should try and talk to about checking the light to make sure it's working properly so if you have any advice send me a message through our station app above. Here are some of the other worst traffic lights in the Hudson Valley. Do you recognize any of them?.... Drive safely!!!
