New York Animal Sanctuary Trying To Find Lost Sheep’s Owner

Late last week, the Catskill Animal Sanctuary located at 316 Old Stage Road in Saugerties posted an urgent notice to the public in the hope of getting some help.

According to their post on Wednesday morning, they discovered a lone sheep had made its way into one of the horse fields at the sanctuary and had made itself at home. This area is close to a back entrance, so no one saw it when it came on the property.

Obviously, they are reaching out to the public in hopes of locating its owner on the off chance that they might be looking for it. It doesn't appear anyone in the area has reported missing a sheep, and as of late, there is no further information regarding how it got to the farm.

Fortunately, they were able to capture the sheep and are taking good care of it. They also shared that per guidance from the SPCA and local law enforcement, the sheep has to be placed on a 3-day stray hold.

The stray hold is important while they determine where the sheep may have come from. You may be asking why I haven't shared a picture of the sheep that was found.  They didn't share a picture. The goal with that is to be sure the person who tries to claim it can identify it correctly without the aid of a photo.

Animal Sanctuary In Saugerties Needs Your Help With A Sheep It Found

If you believe you have information about the sheep, you are being asked to please email the Director of Sanctuary Operations at andrea@casanctuary.org or send us a direct message. They are looking for specific identifying details to confirm the sheep’s identity, such as physical characteristics and sex.

If no one comes forward, the plan is for the Catskill Animal Sanctuary to take the sheep in as a permanent resident. In a Facebook post, they said:

As always, we will keep you, our dedicated supporters, in the loop as this situation further unfolds. Thank you for helping us ensure safety and a bright future for this individual. (Catskill Animal Sanctuary via Facebook)

I don't have any information myself on this particular situation, but I am guessing one of two things happened. First, being that it is a runaway, once it saw the beautiful Catskill Animal Sanctuary and all its happy animals, it decided that it wanted to live there too.

Or second, someone dropped it off, hoping that the good folks at the animal sanctuary would take it in. We will have to wait to see how this all turns out, but either way, it looks like the Rogue Sheep will get a good home.
