Are you looking for love? Well, if you live in New York, a new study found you need to move ASAP!

In a study of positive relationship in the United States, New York ranked as the ninth worst state to find love.

127,070 adults were surveyed. Participants answered questions about fear of abandonment and discomfort with intimacy.

Contributors were asked questions like, "I don't feel comfortable opening up to romantic partners," and "I often worry that my partner doesn't really love me.” The questions were answered on a sliding scale of strongly agree to strongly disagree.

The lower the score, the better those people were in relationships, the study suggested.

The study found North Dakota, Kentucky and Kansas are the worst states for love.

Mississippi, Utah and Wisconsin were the best.

Despite the slogan, "Virginia is for Lovers," Virginia finished the middle of the pack, at 20.

William Chopik, the lead author of the study and an assistant psychology professor at Michigan State University, was surprised to find that many of the states, including New York, fit their stereotype.

When I think of New York, I think of the anxious Woody Allen type, and New York had one of the highest scores for attachment anxiety," which was one of the factors included in the rankings, he stated, according to EurkeAlert. "California, on the other hand, seems like a romantic place with beautiful sunsets, oceans and warm weather. And Utah residents are known to be very nice, warm and generous, which many people attribute to the large Mormon population."

The study was published in the Journal of Research in Personality.
